Please consider the new Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships ( http://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/funding-financement/programs-programmes/fellowships/banting-eng.aspx ) that have been established in Canada. There are 70 new fellowships available this year and they are valued at Canadian $70,000 per year (a total of $140,000). The fellowships are open to Canadians **and** foreign citizens.

These fellowships offer a fantastic opportunity for students interested in continuing to engage in their own research in advance of securing a tenure-track position. the 70 awards will be divided between medical researches, science and engineering, and the social sciences and humanities. Please pass along notice of this award to any of your students whom you think might be interested. Current grad students would have to have completed their PhDs prior to Dec 31, 2010.

Part of the text of the award reads as follows: "The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program will be distinguished from existing postdoctoral fellowships programs by its emphasis on the synergy between an applicant's individual merit and potential to launch a successful research-intensive career and the host institution's commitment to the research program and environment with which the applicant is to be affiliated. As such, an applicant's application to the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program must be completed in full collaboration with the proposed host institution." When your students look for a potential home for this award, they need to make sure that there is a good fit with the institution to which they are applying.
